About Me

Welcome to Digital Harmonies, an initiative dedicated to bridging the digital divide. Founded by Michael Schmalz, a senior at The Altamont School, Digital Harmonies aims to provide devices to individuals in rural, low-income, and elderly communities across Alabama.

Through Connected Nation’s Teens Teach Tech Workshops, I hope to expand digital literacy across Alabama.

Together, we can create a harmonious digital future where everyone has access to the tools they need to thrive. Your generosity fuels our mission and brings us one step closer to a connected world for all.

About the Digital Divide

The digital divide refers to the gap between individuals, households, businesses, and geographic areas at different socio-economic levels with regard to their opportunities to access information and communication technologies (ICTs) and to their use of the Internet for a wide variety of activities.

The digital divide is critical because it impacts education, economic opportunities, social inclusion, healthcare access, and civic engagement. Without access to digital technologies, individuals face significant disadvantages in academic performance, job prospects, and social interaction, leading to broader societal inequalities. Addressing this divide promotes equal opportunities, boosts economic growth, enhances social cohesion, and improves overall quality of life by providing better access to information, services, and opportunities.
